A 6-year-old tells NASA to make Pluto a planet again: ‘You need to fix this problem for me’

A 6 year old girl, Cara Lucy O'Connor, has a concern. Pluto was one of the nine planets in the solar system, and since 2006 it isn't anymore. That’s not working with a little 6 year old girl. That’s not right says the little girl from Ireland. So Cara, with the assistance of her teacher, sent a letter to NASA wanting to convince the space agency to “make Pluto a planet again.” Cara wrote in the letter “I listened to a song and at the end of it the song said “Bring Pluto Back” — and I would really like that to happen,” She went on to clarify that in 2006, Pluto was demoted to the status of a dwarf planet, “a type of planet that isn't big enough to clear its orbit.” She spoke about the Kuiper belt, a doughnut-shaped ring beyond Neptune where many dwarf planets are situated. She wrote: “I really think Pluto should be a main planet again like Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus & Neptune, because in one video I watched called 'Let's go meet the plan...

Scientists Have Finally Solved One Of Pluto's Most Puzzling Mysteries

Image
There are sections in Pluto where enormous ice structures occur. Researchers finally consider they know how they are made. Researchers have cracked one of Pluto's most puzzling mysteries. In 2105, NASA's New Horizons spacecraft flew by Pluto. What it witness near Pluto's equator has puzzled researchers ever since: Huge spikes of methane ice that stand as high as a NYC skyscraper. "We asked ourselves why it forms all of those ridges as opposed to just being big blobs of ice on the ground." -Jeffrey Moore, NASA Ames Research Center The answer discloses that Pluto's weather is more active than previously thought. Minor types of these icy forests exist on Earth. The structures are called penitentes. They form near Earth's equator on top of tall mountains. Up there, circumstances are right to turn snow straight to water vapor. This procedure — called sublimation — generates hard, sharp spikes of snow. NASA researchers believe the similar procedure happens on Pl...

Pluto Is Emitting Strong X-Rays And No One Knows How Or Why

Image
Scientists have detected powerful X-ray emissions from Pluto. A study led by the Chandra X-ray observatory exposed the emissions, baffling researchers about the dwarf planet, whose designation was demoted by the International Astronomical Union in 2006 after many Kuiper Belt Objects of same size were discovered. The new detection originate from researchers' current analysis of data from NASA’s New Horizons (NH) probe, which did an extraordinary flyby of Pluto in July 2015. Even though researchers have earlier found some solar bodies releasing X-rays, as an outcome of their interaction with solar winds, such discharges coming from Pluto, which is situated so far away from the Sun, are extremely unexpected. Pluto releasing X-rays has now upraised more questions about its atmosphere and its interaction with solar winds. Pluto was still undergoing summer when New Horizons made its flyby. The spacecraft identified Pluto's atmosphere was composed mostly of nitrogen gas (N²), methane ...
